Glutinous Rice Dumplings Festival


Yesterday was the Dumplings Festival, celebrated by the Chinese all over the world.  I just want to share some photos of the dumplings that I had made this time for the festival, albeit a little late.  I have been lazy lately, I keep putting off blogging until it's too late! Well, better late than never huh!

 I managed to get some really good quality and bright salted egg yolks this year, last year I got some really mushy yolks.
 The glutinous rice, fried with seasoning like salt, pepper, 5 spice powder and some oyster sauce.  I like mixing the black eyed peas into the rice for more even distribution rather than as part of the dumplings' filling.
 These are the ingredients for the fillings, from the top, the salted egg yolks, the pork belly fried with chestnuts, chinese mushrooms, dried prawns and mung beans.  I prefer to fry them briefly with some garlic instead of leaving them raw.
 The process of making these dumplings are laborious but the result is well worth the effort...especially when you see your loved ones enjoying them:)
